Jon Rahm took the road less traveled last week, sitting out the Genesis Scottish Open to rest up for The Open Championship.

It wasn’t a designated event he was eschewing so there won’t be PIP ramifications for Rahm, but most of the game’s elite were present at The Renaissance Club.

Instead, he could be found getting his links practice in at Ballybunion in Ireland.

Rahmbo can knock out the third leg of the career Grand Slam with a win this week. He’s got a solid record at The Open with five made cuts in six tries, including T-11th in 2019 at Royal Portrush and T-3rd in 2021 at Royal St. George’s.

The Spaniard’s made all three cuts at the majors so far in 2023. He won a green jacket at the Masters and fought back for a T-10th finish at the U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club.

Rahm comes to the United Kingdom looking to get the taste out of his mouth of a rare missed cut in his last start three weeks ago at the Travelers Championship.

After six months or so of intense golf in 2023, a couple extra days to recharge the batteries could be what Rahm needs to finish strong at The Open, FedEx Cup Playoffs, and Ryder Cup.

Prior to Hartford, he was on a streak of six made cuts that began with his Masters win. Rahm also finished solo second in his title defense at the Mexico Open at Vidanta.

Rahm leads the PGA Tour this season with four wins. He also was victorious at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, The American Express, and the Genesis Invitational.

The Arizona State alum ranks second on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained per round (2.244). He’s Top-60 in all SG stats and is one of the top putters among the game’s top players, ranking 23rd (.475).

Rahm has the firepower to hold up in wet, windy conditions this week. He’s 10th in driving distance (313.5).
