Fantasy Golf: 2023 Open Championship DFS Player Selections

This week, fantasy golf fans will be presented with the 2023 Open Championship.

A stacked field of talent, including defending champion Cameron Smith, will travel to England in an attempt to win the last major championship of the year.

The 2023 Open Championship will be played at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club (Hoylake Links Course). Hoylake Links is a par 71 that measures approximately 7,383 yards. Hoylake Links last hosted an Open Championship in 2014.

Before I discuss my fantasy golf player selections I wanted to emphasize that the purpose of this article is not to provide an exact lineup for a specific fantasy provider.

Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!

Here are my fantasy golf/DFS player selections for the year’s final major!

2023 Open Championship DFS Player Selections

Rory McIlroy

Since the beginning of May, Rory McIlroy has played seven tournaments on the PGA Tour. In those seven events just noted, McIlroy accumulated six top-nine finishes, including a second-place result at the 2023 United States Open four weeks ago.

In relation to this week’s current listed 2023 Open Championship field, in the last 50 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Rory McIlroy ranks second in strokes gained tee to green, second in strokes gained ball striking, second in strokes gained around the green, and second in birdie or better percentage.

If you are looking for a golfer that has a stellar record at the Open Championship, look no further as I have found your man. That man’s name is Rory McIlroy. Since 2014, Rory McIlroy has played the Open Championship seven times. In those seven events just noted, McIlroy has accumulated five top-five finishes, including a win at the 2014 Open Championship.

Tommy Fleetwood

Tommy Fleetwood has accumulated three top-six finishes in his last four events played on the PGA Tour, including a second-place result at the 2023 RBC Canadian Open last month.

In relation to this week’s current listed 2023 Open Championship field, in the last eight rounds played on the PGA Tour, Tommy Fleetwood ranks sixth in strokes gained tee to green, fifth in strokes gained ball striking, 14th in birdie or better percentage, and third in bogey avoidance.

Tommy Fleetwood also finished fourth at the 2022 Open Championship.

Robert MacIntyre

Robert MacIntyre has accumulated three top-18 finishes in his last four tournaments played (PGA and DP World Tours combined), including an impressive second-place result at last week’s 2023 Genesis Scottish Open.
