2023 Wyndham Championship: Top 10 power rankings at Sedgefield
Three straight top-10s at this event make Russell Henley an attractive pick for the Wyndham Championship.
After faring no better than T-31st in his first three visits to Sedgefield, the former Georgia Bulldog has rattled off T-9th (68-68-63-65) in 2020, T-7th (62-64-69-71) in 2021 and T-5th (67-65-69-66) in 2022.
He was just a shot away from the six-man playoff in 2021.
Some sloppiness on and around the greens kept Henley from the winner’s circle last year. He was tops in the field in strokes gained per round on approach (1.96) and was third in SG tee-to-green (2,44).
"“Yeah, I think it just puts a premium on your ball-striking,” Henley was quoted by Tee Scripts in 2022. “Around here — not every week I feel great about my ball-striking, but this course, a lot of times I’ve felt comfortable. I’ve felt like I can hit the fairway and I can attack the pins and I know where to miss it. Yeah, and also being bermudagrass, I’m kind of used to that, so it’s a combination of those things.”"
Henley won this season for the first time in five years. He prevailed at the Worldwide Technology Championship at Mayakoba late in 2022.
The 34-year-old Georgian added a T-4th at the Masters and owns multiple top-30s in 2022-23.
Henley is coming off a week of rest. He had a streak of five straight top-35s prior to The Open Championship.
He leads the PGA Tour in driving accuracy (72.37%). That skill is fundamental to his success in Greensboro. Henley’s lack of length isn’t a detriment, either.
He’s also a sharp irons player. He’s fourth in average proximity on approach (34’8”) and 32nd in SG per round on approach (.436).
