We now know what the golf equivalent of a backboard-breaking dunk is.

In what was the most satisfying to watch ace we’ve seen on Tour all year, Sam Burns’ ball on the 157-yard par-3 11th hole at the FedEx St. Jude Championship dunked straight to the bottom of the cup, avoiding the green completely.

Listen to that sweet dunk by Sam Burns!

If there was ever a time for a PGA Tour player to call “Kobe”, it would be after that perfect drop.

Sam Burns was all smiles and hugged it out with his caddie but otherwise played it cool and acted like he had been there before. After all, his last ace came just a couple months ago during the first round of the 123rd U.S. Open; the first ace of his career.

His reaction at L.A.C.C. was a bit more charged as well, where he tossed his wedge in glee and pumped up the L.A. crowd to cheer him on.

And yes, you did read that right, the LSU alum has two aces in this season alone.

His hole-in-one on the 11th hole at TPC Southwind this week wasn’t just an electric highlight reel- it also helped propel Sam Burns to turn around his day. He entered the third round 3-over par for the tournament and was 1-over par for the day before the 11th hole.

After his ace, Sam Burns went on to birdie 12 and 14 and remain under par, finishing the day at 3-under and getting even for the tournament.

The five-time PGA Tour winner had the only ace of the 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship, and while it’s undetermined whether another will be recorded next week, one thing’s for sure, Sam Burns’ act will be a hard one to follow.

Don’t mind us- we’ll just be re-watching the electric highlight to hear that dunk over and over again.
