Jon Rahm has about as much experience at Olympia Fields as anyone in the field. He’s got some pretty good memories, too.

We’ll start with his most recent visit to Illinois when he won the 2020 BMW Championship. Rahm miraculously overcame an opening round 75 to finish in 71-66-64 to make it into a playoff with Dustin Johnson.

Johnson made a 45-footer for birdie on the final hole of regulation. Rahm one-upped him with a 66-footer to win the playoff.

Based on Official World Golf Ranking points earned, this was the fourth-best win of Rahm’s career behind only the 2023 Masters, 2021 U.S. Open, and 2020 Memorial Tournament.

Rahm’s winning score (-4) at the North Course at Olympia Fields was actually worse than his U.S. Open triumph at Torrey Pines (-6).

Rahm also has experience at Olympia Fields at the 2015 U.S. Amateur where he advanced to the match play quarterfinals. He returned later that year competing with Arizona State at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational where he finished T-9th.

Rahm is likely hungry for a win this week. He’s got three top-10s and just one missed cut since the Masters but no trophies to show for it.

His services are going to be needed in a big way next month at the Ryder Cup, so it’s time to round into form.

The 28-year-old ranks third on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained per round (2.063). He’s also third in SG off-the-tee (1.612) and third in SG approach (.901).
