Matt Kuchar is still going strong at age 45.

He put together a solid 2022-23 PGA Tour season, collecting four top-10s and four more top-25s. Kuchar came close to his first win in three years when he took T-3rd at the Valero Texas Open.

One of his top-25s came at the Fortinet Championship. Kuch is 3-for-3 making the cut at Silverado. He took T-21st (71-68-66-76) in 2014, T-36th (70-66-72-73) in 2021, and T-12th (68-68-70-73) last year.

In 2022, Kuchar was ninth in the field in strokes gained per round tee-to-green (.436), was 16th in total SG around-the-green (2.264), and 17th in SG approach (3.103).

"“You throw in just a course that’s fun to play, that suits my eye,” Kuchar was transcribed by Tee Scripts. “There’s a lot of unique holes out here and holes I really enjoy, particularly under these firm, fast conditions. We don’t often see balls running out this far in fairways, having to play short of pins to allow for a big hop. It’s a treat to play a golf course like this.”"

The former Georgia Tech standout led the PGA Tour in sand saves last season (66.37%). He was also third in scrambling (65.76%) and ninth in SG around-the-green (.381).

Kuchar struggles to keep up on long golf courses these days. Thankfully, Silverado is more manageable, especially when playing firm and fast.

Kuchar would love to get to double-digit career wins. Playing against a weak field assembled this week in California is one of his best chances.
