2023 Fortinet Championship: Top 10 power rankings at Silverado
It’s not a home game this week for Chino Hills, California, native Sahith Theegala, but playing on the West Coast does garner some familiarity. Not to mention, this will be his fourth appearance at the Fortinet Championship.
"“I’m like a seven-and-a-half-hour drive away, but I can claim the whole state as my home state,” Theegala was transcribed by Tee Scripts in 2022. “Yeah, definitely familiar grasses and I’ve played up here so many times. I’ve got a buddy, Zack Sims, he lives up here, so I’ve played with him a bunch out here. Like I said, I feel like I’ve played so much, I feel super comfortable.”"
Theegala has made the cut in all three appearances at Silverado. He debuted in 2020 with T-14th (71-68-64-70), had a poor final round that dropped him to T-47th (69-70-69-75) in 2021, and posted T-6th (67-69-71-70) last year.
In 2022, Theegala looked comfortable on the poa annua greens, finishing seventh in the field in strokes gained putting for the week (4.725).
Theegala struggled for most of the summer but finished the 2022-23 season with a pair of nice finishes in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. He took T-13th at the FedEx St. Jude Championship and just missed out on the Tour Championship after T-15th at the BMW Championship.
He’s still seeking his first win in the big leagues. Otherwise, the 25-year-old has done just about everything else in his first two seasons on the PGA Tour.
In 2022-23, Theegala ranked 33rd in SG per round around-the-green (.214) and 28th in SG putting (.399).
