Fantasy Golf: 2023 Ryder Cup DFS Player Selections

This week, DraftKings fantasy golf fans will be presented with the 2023 Ryder Cup! Let’s take a look at this prestigious event from a fantasy golf/DraftKings perspective.

The 2023 Ryder Cup will be played at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club near Rome, Italy.

Before I discuss my fantasy golf player selections I wanted to emphasize that the purpose of this article is not to provide an exact lineup for a specific fantasy provider.

Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!

***The Ryder Cup fantasy scoring is vastly different than the standard more traditional DraftKings golf contests we see on a weekly basis. Keep that in mind as you construct your fantasy golf lineups. 

Here are my Fantasy Golf/DraftKings selections for the 2023 Ryder Cup!

Viktor Hovland  $8,800

Since the beginning of June, Viktor Hovland has played eight tournaments (PGA and DP World Tours combined). In those eight events just noted, Hovland has accumulated six top-19 finishes, including two wins in the FedEx Cup playoffs (2023 BMW Championship: 2023 Tour Championship).

Although Viktor Hovland’s career record at the Ryder Cup is not good (0-3-2) I am not concerned. Quite frankly, Viktor Hovland is a far superior golfer now than he was the last time he played this event. I expect him to show the world how great he can be in match play competition in Italy.

Rory McIlroy  $9,600

Rory McIlroy has accumulated 12 consecutive top-16 finishes (DP World and PGA Tours combined), including a win at the 2023 Genesis Scottish Open in July.

In relation to this week’s current listed 2023 Ryder Cup field, in the last 24 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Rory McIlroy ranks second in strokes gained ball striking, second in strokes gained off the tee, fourth in GIR (greens in regulation), and first in DraftKings points scored.

In summary, I fully expect McIlroy to significantly improve his current Ryder Cup record (12-12-4) this week.

Wyndham Clark  $5,800

If you are looking for a low-cost play for this event I don’t think you can do better than Wyndham Clark. Clark arrives on the DraftKings slate at a cost of only $5,800.

Let’s take a look at how Wyndham Clark has performed on the golf course recently.

Since the beginning of June, Wyndham Clark has played eight tournaments on the PGA Tour. In those eight events just mentioned, Clark has accumulated four top-25 finishes, including a win at the 2023 U.S. Open.
