Can Ludvig Aberg Be Team Europe’s Secret Weapon?
Ludvig Aberg, the Swedish golfer who was a captain’s pick for this year’s Ryder Cup for Team Europe, has made a name for himself as of late on the PGA Tour.
Making 6 of his first 7 cuts and having 4 top 25 finishes, while earning 1 top 10 is very impressive for his young career. For many, this is their first chance to see him play, and they are being blown away. While others who saw him play in college are not surprised at all.
Ludvig Aberg played his college golf at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Aberg has given much praise to Texas Tech during the media week of the Ryder Cup. While at Texas Tech Aberg won the Ben Hogan Award this past year. Throughout his college career Aberg was able to collect 6 wins, with 4 wins coming from this past season.
Luke Donald, the captain of Team Europe, did not let the rookie status of Aberg deter him from making Aberg a captain’s pick. In fact, Luke Donald recalled to Golf Digest, playing with Aberg and being impressed with the way he handled himself on the golf course. Another trait that stuck out to Team Europe’s Captain was the smooth explosive drive of Aberg.
There are many good things in the golf game of Ludvig Aberg. The most dominant part of Aberg’s game is the ability to use his powerful swing to gain distance off the tee. Aberg, who is also known for his impressive ball striking, will combine that with his length to make low scores on the par 5s this week.
Although Aberg is a rookie, he can make a major impact in this year’s Ryder Cup in Rome.
