2023 Sanderson Farms Championship: Top 10 power rankings
A win and a Tour Championship appearance made for a solid 2022-23 PGA Tour season. The Argentinian won for the second time in his PGA Tour career and first since 2015 when he hung on to win in a playoff at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Grillo finished with seven top-10s. The first came at the Sanderson Farms Championship. He overcame an opening 73 to close in 65-68-69 and claim T-5th just four shots off the pace. A triple bogey on the 14th on Sunday kept him from truly contending for the title.
He was fifth in the field in strokes gained approach (5.653) and first in greens in regulation (79.17%).
"“I know you’re going to have perfect greens, these are probably the best greens of all year,” Grillo was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2021. “It’s a golf course that I like, it fits my eye and it’s Bermuda. You know, I live in Florida for eight years, so I know what I’m going to find and I know what I have to do and all I have to do is just execute the shots.”"
Grillo has never missed a cut at Country Club of Jackson. He finished T-39th (67-71-73-70) in 2019, T-35th (69-72-71-69) in 2020, and T-39th (70-69-66-72) in 2021.
Last season, Grillo ranked seventh on the PGA Tour in total birdies (407). He gained strokes in every category except for around-the-green.
The 31-year-old comes to Mississippi well-rested with his last start coming in August at East Lake.
