2023 RSM Classic: Top 10 power rankings at Sea Island GC
Russell Henley is one of the more experienced players at the RSM Classic, especially among the non-Sea Island residents.
A T-22nd (64-70-70-68) finish in 2021 was his fifth top-30 and sixth made cut in eight starts at Sea Island Golf Club.
Henley also teed it up at SIGC collegiately playing for Georgia in the SEC Championships.
“I think so,” Henley said in a Tee Scripts transcription when asked in 2021 if former Georgia Bulldogs have an advantage at Sea Island.
"“I mean, I played Seaside a lot of times. The more you can see that course, the better. There’s a lot of, you know, little small swales and things you need to know about. I’ve played in a lot of wind, too, a lot of different winds, so it’s definitely helped.”"
Henley is making his one and only start of the FedEx Cup Fall. We last saw him at the Tour Championship where he finished T-14th.
A big reason the 34-year-old made it to East Lake was his win at the 2022 World Wide Technology Championship. The tournament moved courses, which may have been why Henley was not there a couple weeks ago to defend his title.
He might’ve just wanted the rest, too. He doesn’t have much to play for as far as status for next season goes. He’s locked into all the Signature Events and is comfortably in the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking.
That goes to show how Henley wants to be there this week to play in his home state. I like him to use the laid-back vibes of this event to his advantage and go low.
Henley ranks 23rd on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Total (.869 per round). He’s 17th in SG: Approach (.56) and 21st in SG: Around-the-Green (.267).
