Cameron Young is giving himself one more crack at winning his first PGA Tour event. It’s a great opportunity this week competing against a weak field where he’s the second-highest ranked in the OWGR.

The Wake Forest alum comes in rested with just one start in the FedEx Cup Fall, a T-54th a couple weeks ago at the World Wide Technology Championship. It looked like he was shaking off a bit of rust in Mexico in what was his first start in more than two months.

I expect him to be a lot sharper here in Georgia.

This will be Young’s second appearance at the RSM Classic. He carded 65-71-71-67 for T-29th as a rookie in 2021.

It was a bit of a disappointing sophomore season in 2022-23 for Young. He missed out on the Tour Championship after making it in 2022. Young was also left off the American Ryder Cup team despite finishing ninth in qualifying points.

The season wasn’t without highlights. The 26-year-old New Yorker posted five top-10s on the PGA Tour and another on the Asian Tour. Young made it to the finals at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play and was top-eight at the Masters and The Open.

He’s an excellent ball striker who uses his short, powerful body like a slingshot at the ball. Young is ninth on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee (.597 per round) and fifth in driving distance (316.5).

The Seaside and Plantation courses don’t best allow him to showcase his length, but there are still some spots he can gain ground on the field.

Young is a good iron player, ranking ninth in approach proximity from 175-200 yards (31’) and eighth from 125-150 yards (20’).

I don’t quite see him getting it done this week, but he’ll grab some momentum to take into 2024 when I anticipate Young finally grabbing a trophy.
