It's been rather difficult for the PGA Tour to get all of its top players to attend Signature Events this season. Just Rory McIlroy alone has skipped three of them, opting out of the season-opening Sentry, the RBC Heritage, and the Memorial.
But at long last, the Travelers Championship, which marks the eighth and final Signature Event of the 2025 campaign, has all the big names ready to roll, as every single player from the top 10 in the Official World Golf Ranking and 18 of the top 20 is set to tee it up at TPC River Highlands.
And the only reason the two exceptions aren't in attendance, of course, is because both currently reside on the LIV Golf roster, those being 13th-ranked Bryson DeChambeau and 18th-ranked Tyrrell Hatton.
But even with those two out of the picture, we're still looking at a mini-major kind of a field at the Travelers. And coming off a wild week at the U.S. Open, who's not up for that?
Headlining the star-studded field is none other than world No. 1 and defending champion Scottie Scheffler, who took down Tom Kim in a playoff a season ago to capture the sixth of nine worldwide wins in 2024.
As it goes with every tournament in which he's involved, Scheffler, looking for win number four in 2025 after recent victories at the Byron Nelson, the PGA Championship, and the Memorial, comes into the Travelers as the heavy betting favorite at +300. Despite a shaky putter this past week at Oakmont, Scottie still managed a tie for seventh.
Also as is typical, McIlroy, who somehow managed a T19 at the U.S. Open despite all sorts of struggles, comes to Connecticut with the second-shortest odds, even if it's a genuinely distant second at +1200.
2022 Travelers champ Xander Schauffele (+1600), Collin Morikawa (+1800), and Patrick Cantlay (+2200) round out the top five, while newly crowned major championship winner J.J. Spaun is being a bit disrespected, sitting well down the board in a tie for 16th at +5000.
Perhaps oddsmakers are concerned about a letdown from the U.S. Open champ after such an exhausting week at Oakmont, which is understandable. But should Spaun, who vaulted into eighth in the OWGR this week, by the way, really hold the exact same odds as Aaron Rai and Daniel Berger?
