Well, this should be fun.
It's not often that we're treated to an all-new course on the PGA Tour, but that's what we've got this week, as the newly renamed Truist Championship (formerly the Wells Fargo) will be contested on the Wissahickon Course of the famed Philadelphia Cricket Club, which is considered the oldest country club in the United States.
The reasoning behind this change, of course, is that the event's usual location, Charlotte's Quail Hollow Club, is hosting next week's PGA Championship.
As for Wissahickon, it was designed by A.W. Tillinghast, whose other credits include the likes of Winged Foot, Baltusrol, and the site of this year's Ryder Cup, Bethpage Black. So, there's certainly no need to worry about the quality of the venue over the next few days.
As for the field, the Truist is the sixth Signature Event on the 2025 PGA Tour calendar and features 72 of the top players on the planet. That said, however, notably absent in the City of Brotherly Love is world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who opted to take the week off even before torching TPC Craig Ranch en route to a historic victory at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
Not to worry, though. Headlining this star-studded field is four-time winner and defending champion Rory McIlroy, who enters the week as the big betting favorite at +400. The Wissahickon course may not be the perfect fit for his game, but Rory has proven he can win just about anywhere, and it's hard to bet against him right now, given the way he's played this year.
Sitting in a distant second is Collin Morikawa at +1400. Winless since the 2023 Zozo Championship, Morikawa recently parted ways with longtime caddie J.J. Jakovac and has replaced him with Joe Greiner, who carried Max Homa's bag for years and just helped Justin Thomas snap his nearly three-year winless drought at the RBC Heritage.
Speaking of JT, who returns to the site of his first PGA Championship victory next week, he's one of three players tied for the third-shortest odds for the Truist at +1600, the others being Xander Schauffele and Ludvig Åberg.
