After a one-year hiatus, the Truist Championship returns to Quail Hollow for the season's sixth Signature Event. Following last week's Cadillac Championship in Miami, the sixth of eight of the PGA Tour's elevated events comes on the eve of the year's second major, the PGA Championship.
While some big names, including world No.1 Scottie Scheffler, take a week off on the eve of another major championship, others will get some final reps in at one of the iconic venues on the schedule. Quail Hollow Club (Par-71, 7,583 yards) in Charlotte, North Carolina, returns from a one-year hiatus as host of this event, formerly known as the Wells Fargo Championship, after hosting last year's PGA Championship.
The original George Cobb design, later reworked by Tom Fazio and Arnold Palmer, will test this week's field, even in non-major conditions. Rory McIlroy won the last time Quail Hollow hosted the Truist Championship in 2024 at 17-under par.
A four-time winner at Quail Hollow, Rory McIlroy headlines this week's elite 72-man field that also sees the return of Xander Schauffele, Ludvig Aberg, and Matt Fitzpatrick, who are back in action after skipping last week's Cadillac Championship.
Other notables who are set to tee it up include last week's winner in Miami, Cameron Young, Tommy Fleetwood, Patrick Cantlay, and Hideki Matsuyama, to name a few. Sepp Straka returns as the defending champion of the Truist Championship after his win last year at the Philadelphia Cricket Club.
Who will take home the title in the final event ahead of the year's second major? Let's dive into the picks and predictions for the 2026 Truist Championship.
2026 Truist Championship picks and predictions
Top 20 pick for the Truist Championship: Denny McCarthy (+270)
Coming off a T30 result in Miami, McCarthy returns to Quail Hollow, where he has had some strong results in recent visits, including tying for eighth at the 2025 PGA Championship. He has just one top 20 finish this season, a T12 result at the Texas Children's Houston Open in March, but has posted three consecutive top-10s at Quail Hollow dating back to 2023.
Pick to win the Truist Championship: J.J. Spaun (+4400)
A winner at the Valero Texas Open at the beginning of April, last year's U.S. Open champion is hitting his stride again after a bit of a slow start in 2026. Spaun's best finish before The Players Championship in March was a T45 at Pebble Beach; however, since a T24 result at TPC Sawgrass, he has a win and two top-25s in three of his last four starts, including tying for 14th at the Cadillac Championship in his most recent start.
He finished tied for 18th here in 2021 and T27 in 2023. Spaun ranks third in the field in approach over his last twenty rounds coming into the Truist Championship, per Data Golf.
Pick to win the Truist Championship: Ludvig Aberg (+1750)
Dating back to the Genesis Invitational in February, Ludvig Aberg hasn't finished worse than T21 in any of his last six starts on the PGA Tour. He has finished T5 or better in four of his last five starts coming into the Truist Championship, and ranks top five in the field in both approach and from tee to green over his last twenty rounds.
Aberg missed the cut at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in 2025, but comes into the Truist Championship playing much better golf of late than he was at this time last season.
Pick to win the Truist Championship: Xander Schauffele (+1150)
A winner in October at the Baycurrent Classic in Japan, Schauffele is still searching for his first victory of 2026. A run of three consecutive top-9 finishes was halted at the RBC Heritage last time out, where the two-time major champion tied for twelfth.
Schauffele has made nine starts in 2026 so far and finished T12 or better on five occasions, including a third-place finish at the Players Championship in March. He has a tremendous history at this event, including back-to-back runner-up finishes at Quail Hollow in 2023 and 2024.
