The upcoming Crypto.com Showdown featuring LIV Golf's Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka against the PGA Tour's Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler was always going to have some extra spice to it for obvious reasons. Now, thanks to some light-hearted pre-event trash-talking, things are getting serious.

In what is set to arguably be the most eagerly anticipated event of its kind to date, the brand new Showdown between four of the sport's biggest stars will take place at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas, Nevada, on December, 17. Shadow Creek previously hosted TNT's 'The Match' featuring Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson in 2018.

The made-for-TV Showdown will see four of the sport's greatest players compete against each other for the first time outside of the four major championships; something which most golf fans have been hungry for ever since LIV's inception in 2021. Fans will be eagerly waiting to see who comes out on top in this competition between multiple major champions. Now, thanks to Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy, things have just been taken up another notch.

Bryson DeChambeau had the perfect comeback for Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy's agonizing wait for a fifth major championship looked as though it might be coming to an end at this year's U.S. Open in June until Bryson DeChambeau won his second major title in a dramatic finish at Pinehurst.

Understandably, Rory McIlroy now comes into The Showdown against Bryson hungry for a bit of payback, and speaking on the practice range ahead of the eagerly anticipated event McIlroy let his intentions be known saying "I'd like to go up against Bryson and try to get him back for what he did to me at the U.S. Open."

The four-time major champion had numerous opportunities at June's U.S. Open to end a winless drought in majors which has now surpassed the ten-year mark. Unfortunately for McIlroy, costly mistakes combined with Bryson's astonishing bunker shot on 18 were enough in the end to see the American lifting the famous trophy for the second time in his career. Much like at the summer's major, DeChambeau dealt McIlroy another crushing blow with a perfectly timed response to McIlroy's comments on the range. "To be fair, you kind of did it to yourself", Bryson said.

Brutal.

DeChambeau, arguably the most entertaining golfer both on and off the course, had the perfect comeback for Rory McIlroy. He will now look to deliver another blow to Rory McIlroy in this year's LIV vs. PGA Showdown at Shadow Creek.

It's now on Rory McIlroy to get back off of the mat.
