Some of the best players in the world assembled in the Bahamas for one of the year's final events, the Hero World Challenge. The unofficial PGA Tour event, which is held at the end of the year and hosted by the great Tiger Woods, annually showcases some of the biggest stars in the game ahead of the new season. This year's 25th edition of the Hero World Challenge was no different with names including defending champion and World No.1 Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, Ludvig Aberg, Patrick Cantlay, and a host of others in attendance for this marquee event on the golfing calendar.

Cameron Young was amongst a handful of players to make an early move at this year's Hero World Challenge after opening with a bogey-free 8-under 64 during the first round, but while Young would cool off a bit following his electric start, others including Justin Thomas and 2023 champion Scottie Scheffler would remain in contention heading into the weekend at Albany GC. A 64 during his second round saw the World No. 1 take control at the halfway point before Thomas would respond on Moving Day with a 6-under 66. In search of his first win of the year and fresh off a runner-up finish at the ZOZO Championship in his last start, Thomas would take a slim advantage into the final round.

With Scheffler and Tom Kim hot on his heels, and several other big names just a few shots further adrift, Thomas, who recently became a new father in the last month, would need to keep the challengers at bay during the final round of this year's Hero World Challenge if he was going to secure his first win since the 2022 PGA Championship. Whoever emerged triumphant in this elite 20-man field in the Bahamas was set to earn a significant winner's share of this year's prize purse. But exactly how much was on the line at Tiger's event in 2024? Let's take a look at the prize purse, winner's share, and complete payout distribution breakdown by finishing position for the 25th edition of the Hero World Challenge.

Hero World Challenge purse 2024: Total purse and winner's prize money

The purse for the Hero World Challenge is set at $5 million for 2024 with this year's champion in the Bahamas set to receive a winner's share of $1 million; the same winning figure that last year's champion Scottie Scheffler received, as well as every other winner of this event dating back to 2012. While the winner's check hasn't fluctuated much throughout the years, the total prize purse at the Hero World Challenge has. The 2024 edition of the event will mark another year with an increased purse, up from the $4.5 million that was divvied out to the field in 2023, and the $3.5 million prize in 2022 and previous years.

With its limited field and a substantial $5 million prize purse on the line, the Hero World Challenge will reward its field handsomely in 2024 with every player taking home a six-figure payday for their efforts at Tiger's event in the Bahamas. Meanwhile, each of the top 10 finishers at this year's event will all earn at least $200k in prize money with this year's champion taking home the winner's share of a whopping $1 million; a sum that has become the norm over the years for the privilege of getting to compete in and win this exclusive event. While the substantial payouts are undoubtedly nice for all involved, perhaps even more rewarding for the champion is being able to shake Tiger's hand and be congratulated by him at the end. The PGA Tour will kick off its new season next month in Hawaii at The Sentry; the first of eight signature events on the schedule in 2025.
