Undoubtedly one of the most iconic golf holes in the world, the famed 17th on the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass is one of the shortest par-3s that PGA Tour players see all year.
But despite playing only somewhere between 120 to 145 yards, depending on exactly where the tee markers are placed, the penultimate hole at Pete Dye's design is no picnic.
While technically a peninsula, the "Island Green" offers little room for error. Outside of a thin pathway on the far side of the hole and a tiny 55-square-foot bunker in front of the green, the 17th at Sawgrass is completely surrounded by water.
Since 2003, when the PGA Tour began keeping more detailed records during The Players Championship, close to 1,000 balls have found the water. The 2007 edition was particularly rough, as 93 balls hit the drink, including 50 in the opening round alone, as the wind wreaked havoc.
And it's not as if the green is crazy big to bail players out, as it measures just 68 feet from front to back and 81 feet from side to side.
So, again, it's certainly not the easiest hole.
That said, though, since TPC Sawgrass became the permanent home of The Players in 1982, a total of 14 players have hit the dream shot and aced the 17th during the playing of the PGA Tour's flagship event.
The first hole-in-one at the "Island Green" was recorded during the opening round of the 1986 edition of The Players and was hit by Brad Fabel. Oddly enough, though, that's not his most famous moment on the hole.
A dozen years later, in 1998, Fabel successfully found the green off the tee, only to watch his ball be picked up by a seagull and dropped into the water.
As a bird is considered an "outside agency," he was allowed to replace his ball without incurring a penalty stroke.
Perhaps it was that moment that helped Fabel decide to become a Rules Official once his playing career came to a close.
The most recent ace at the 17th was hit by Ryan Fox in the first round of the 2024 Players Championship.
The complete list of every hole-in-one at the 17th at TPC Sawgrass during The Players Championship
As mentioned, 14 different players have aced the 17th at Sawgrass during The Players.
As you'll see below, the list includes Fred Couples, who recorded his ace in the final round of the 1997 event.
What you won't see on the list is the time Couples holed a shot from the tee box two years later, but only after hitting his first attempt into the water, thus giving the 1992 Masters champ arguably the most astonishing par in the history of golf.
But without further ado, here's the complete list of every hole-in-one at the 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass during The Players Championship.
