At long last, the 2025 edition of The Masters is upon us.

And while the world will watch the best players on the planet compete for four days for the honor of slipping on the green jacket in Augusta National's famed Butler Cabin on Sunday evening, there's first the matter of a little family fun at The Masters Par 3 Contest.

First played in 1960, the Par 3 Contest is one of many cherished traditions to take place during Masters week and allows its competitors to partake in more of a light-hearted atmosphere on Wednesday before the intensity picks up for Thursday's opening round.

Participation is not a requirement, but many of the game's biggest stars, both past and present, opt to show up, much to the delight of those in attendance.

Given the family-friendly nature of the event, caddies for the players are a mix of wives, girlfriends, children, and grandchildren, all of whom wear the famous white jumpsuits. And on many occasions, the family members will get into the action themselves, hitting shots or taking putts.

Perhaps the most famous instance occurred back in 2018 when Jack Nicklaus' grandson, Gary Nicklaus Jr., stepped in and aced the ninth hole, sending the crowd—and his six-time Masters champion grandfather—into a frenzy. Having Gary Player and Tom Watson on the tee box only added to the excitement.

Famously, nobody has ever won the Par 3 Contest and The Masters in the same year. Raymond Floyd came close in 1990, winning on Wednesday with a score of 4-under before losing a playoff to Nick Faldo that Sunday.

Nevertheless, that doesn't keep dozens upon dozens of players from showing up to the Par 3 Contest, although it should be noted that some in contention do get themselves intentionally disqualified to avoid the so-called curse.
