2. Justin Thomas

Isn't it crazy to think about how Justin Thomas hasn't won a PGA Tour event since he took down Will Zalatoris in the 2022 PGA Championship? Thomas was trapped in the wilderness with his game the past couple of seasons, but it seems that he is trending back towards his dominant form in 2025, coming off a 2nd-place finish at The American Express. Seeing Thomas perform well at an event that typically comes down to being a putting contest is a helpful sign to see, as the putter has always been the biggest question of Thomas' game. He's plenty long, knows how to dial in his approach game, and if his putter is still running hot, I don't see any reason why Thomas shouldn't be lifting the trophy come Sunday evening. The Justin Thomas Renaissance is upon us in 2025, and it really starts here at Pebble Beach.

1. Patrick Cantlay

Last time we saw Patrick Cantlay on our TV screens, he was spouting off about expected value of dropping the Hammer in his opening TGL match and getting completely alpha'ed in the personality camp by Justin Thomas and Billy Horschel. However, you can't deny that Cantlay is playing very strong golf right now, and that he can beat up Pebble. All of his last 4 finishes at this event have been T11 or better, and there are really no holes in Cantlay's game right now, riding a streak of 9 straight top-25 finishes in his worldwide starts. Cantlay seems perfectly cemented in that second-highest tier of Tour player that's right below the top tier with Scottie, Rory, Xander, etc. where he can lurk around just below the radar enough to burst through and take down the trophy this week.
