PGA Tour Power Rankings: Farmers Insurance Open
By James Monday
The PGA Tour has a quick turnaround this week, as the Farmers Insurance Open runs on a Wednesday-Saturday schedule at Torrey Pines. Defending champion Matthieu Pavon is looking to defend his title against a field that is one of the stronger fields in the non-signature event division of the Tour.
The scoring at Torrey tends to be a little higher than what we got this past week at The American Express, with the last winning score lower than 20 under par coming all the way back in 2019 when Justin Rose took home the trophy. I have always enjoyed watching Torrey Pines, that may be because it's a good escape from the bitter New England winters, but overall I enjoy the tournament and feel it's usually a stern enough test during the regular season. Let's look at who I think should be able to stand up to that test this weekend.
9. Akshay Bhatia
Akshay Bhatia has gotten off to an okay start in 2025, with a T32 at The Sentry and a T37 at the Dubai Desert Classic so far this season. However, Bhatia's underlying numbers show that he may have gotten unlucky with his starts, and top finishes should be coming his way soon. Bhatia's combination of strong putting skills and previous success at Torrey Pines (T13 in his lone start in the tournament last season) should set him up well on a course that has consistently ranked as one of the toughest courses to putt on year in and year out.
