2024 3M Open: Top 10 power rankings at TPC Twin Cities
Lee Hodges came out of nowhere to win his one and only career PGA Tour title at the 2023 3M Open. While he had some nice finishes in the months leading in, Hodges arrived at TPC Twin Cities coming off of three missed cuts in his previous four outings.
It all came together in Blaine as he led wire-to-wire thanks to rounds of 63-64-66-67. Hodges ran away and hid with a seven-shot victory.
If performance on Monday-Wednesday counted, too, Hodges may have won by even more.
“Elated. It's just a dream week, the whole thing. I mean, I played -- honestly, from Monday to Sunday I played really good golf, even in practice rounds,” Hodges was transcribed by Tee Scripts. “The pro-am I made a bunch of birdies and then I made a bunch of birdies in the tournament with not many bogeys, so it was just one of those weeks.”
Hodges’ 72-hole total of 260 (-24) was the lowest score in the tournament’s brief history, beating Matthew Wolff’s 263 to win in 2019.
Hodges led the field in Strokes Gained: Approach (9.393). He only found the sand twice all week and got up and down both times. He was first in birdies (25) and made no double bogeys or worse. Even finishing near the middle of the pack in SG: Off-the-Tee or SG: Around-the-Green couldn’t keep the former Alabama Crimson Tide from coasting to victory.
He’s hoping he can find lightning in a bottle like last year. Hodges doesn’t bring great form to Minnesota once again, though he’s missed just one cut in his last nine starts.
In that span, he took T-12th at the PGA Championship and again the next week at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Hodges enters well-rested with two weeks off since taking T-46th at the Genesis Scottish Open.
Through July 14, the 29-year-old ranks 45th on the PGA Tour in SG: Approach (.322).
