2024 3M Open: Top 10 power rankings at TPC Twin Cities
Aside from the actual winner, Xander Schauffele, Justin Rose was among the other winners, so to speak, at last week’s Open Championship.
The 43-year-old Englishman admirably made it through a 36-hole open qualifier event earlier this summer just to make it into the field at Royal Troon. He’s had an illustrious career with a U.S. Open win and dozens of high finishes at majors. Yet, Rosey had never been able to quite get it done in his most coveted tournament.
He had a fantastic opportunity to do it last week. Schauffele was just unstoppable.
Rose entered the day one shot back of the lead and was in the penultimate pairing alongside Schauffele. Rose’s 4-under round was about as bad as it could have been scoring wise as he had several putts burn edges. He’ll likely spend the plane ride to Minnesota wondering what could have been.
In the end, he settled for T-2nd.
“Gutted when I walked off the course and it hit me hard because I was so strong out there today,” Rose was transcribed by ASAP Sports. “I kind of got off to the start I wanted. I really played the way I wanted to today. I got off on the front foot. I played my way right into the tournament early doors. Felt comfortable with it all day. Did a lot of the hard things really well on the golf course today.”
Rose’s iron game was great last week. He was rarely out of position and finished fifth in the field in Strokes Gained: Approach (7.45). He was top-20 in every category.
This was Rose’s second top-10 in a major this year. He took T-6th at the PGA Championship.
He’s set to make his 3M Open debut.
