20243MOpen/PowerRank/7. 7. OWGR: 11th. FedEx Cup: 7th. Sahith Theegala

Sahith Theegala is a glutton for punishment.

Okay, that might be a bit extreme, but you do have to commend him for returning to the 3M Open after missing the cut in his first three attempts.

There aren’t many venues that flummox a top-20 player in the world like Theegala.

He hasn’t played all that bad at TPC Twin Cities, either, when you look into it.

In just his third professional start in 2020, the former Pepperdine standout carded rounds of 72-72. Not bad, but 2-over ain’t making the cut on this soft layout.

Fast forward to 2022 and he posted 73-73. Uncharacteristic, but it was also his fifth event in six weeks and the week after playing The Open Championship over in the United Kingdom.

Last year, Theegala fought hard after an opening 72 to post 67, but it left him one shot off the cut line.

Theegala is eager to put last week in the rearview mirror. He struggled to 14-over-par at Royal Troon to miss the cut by miles.

That result was tough to see coming considering he played well across the pond the week prior at the Genesis Scottish Open, taking T-4th.

He still has more top-fives (three) than missed cuts (two) in 2024.

Through July 14, Theegala ranks 11th on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Total (1.131). He’s top 30 in SG: Tee-to-Green (.71), Off-the-Tee (.401), Approach (.391), and Putting (.421).

On weeks like this at TPC Twin Cities, he can get by without having a stellar short game. Last week was the opposite.

Theegala has arguably been the best player without a win this season. That streak is in jeopardy.
