2024 3M Open: Top 10 power rankings at TPC Twin Cities
Seeing all the underdog stories emerge last week at The Open Championship had to make Cam Davis wonder.
He was the first alternate last week at Royal Troon. Thoughts must have been racing through his head that he could have done some serious damage if he had gotten in. Davis entered the week ranked No. 41 in the Official World Golf Ranking.
For whatever reason, the Rocket Mortgage Classic last month was not part of The Open qualifying series. Thus, Davis did not get into the field by virtue of his win in Detroit.
Alas, he comes to Minnesota with something to prove.
Davis has played well at the 3M Open.
He hasn’t missed a trip to TPC Twin Cities since the event originated in 2019.
After missing the cut by one in 2019 despite shooting 2-under (70-70), Davis has finished T-12th (67-66-69-68), T-28th (71-69-73-64), T-16th (70-68-70-69), and T-10th (68-67-70-65).
The Aussie was in the top half of the field in almost every stat at last year’s event, including T-8th in greens in regulation (81.94%) and 12th in Strokes Gained: Approach (4.067). Davis found just one greenside bunker all week and got up and down that time.
After winning the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Davis followed it up with T-26th at the Genesis Scottish Open. He’s on a nice upward trajectory after a relatively slow start to the season (with exception to a T-12th at the Masters).
Davis has played well this year on a course with a lot of water like this week’s. He took T-18th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
