Matt Fitzpatrick owns an impressive resume at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. All that’s missing is a win. He’d look spiffy in that champion’s red sweater, don’t you think?

The Englishman missed the cut in his debut at Bay Hill in 2014 but has since made seven cuts in eight tries with none worse than T-27th when he’s made the weekend.

“I like that it's quite penal off the tee and missing the greens,” Fitzpatrick was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2017. “If you really hit it well tee to green you can shoot some good scores. And I enjoy playing courses like this, it's a challenge.”

Fitzpatrick finished solo second at the 2019 API. He carded 70-70-67 to take the 54-hole lead. A Sunday 71 seemed like enough to get the job done, but Francesco Molinari had other ideas with a 64 to surge up the leaderboard.

That kicked off a string of four straight top-10s for Fitz at this event.

The 29-year-old got some reps in Florida last week at the Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches where he finished T-21st. It was a good uptick after a missed cut in his previous start two weeks prior at the Genesis Invitational.

Fitzpatrick has three top-25s this year highlighted by T-14th at The Sentry.

This week will be a test of players’ mid to long irons. He ranks 18th on the PGA Tour in average approach proximity from 175-200 yards (29’6”) and 18th from 200-225 yards (33’10”).
