OWGR: 4th. FedEx Cup: 60th. Viktor Hovland. ArnoldPalmerInvitational/PowerRank/3. 3

Viktor Hovland hasn’t exactly gotten off to the start in 2024 he was looking for, but he’s come to the right place to try to get back on track.

The Norwegian was just a shot away from tying a dazzling performance by Scottie Scheffler when Hovland took T-2nd at the 2022 Arnold Palmer Invitational. Last year, Hovland added another high finish when rounds of 71-71-66-75 netted him T-10th.

“...if you get off to a bad start out here, you try to push and maybe take some lines that you probably shouldn't,” Hovland was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2021, “so one thing is just being disciplined and just sticking to your game plan, because there's a lot of water out there and the rough is thick, so you just kind of got to play smart.”

Hovland comes into the week well-rested. The former Oklahoma State Cowboy has only teed it up three times this year, and all were in the U.S. Each start came at a Signature Event, so it’s not like he’s had the chance to feast on some weaker fields.

The 26-year-old had a decent result at The Sentry (T-22nd) and was under par all four rounds for T-19th at the Genesis Invitational.

Hovland is 20th on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee (.546). If he can continue to be in good position off the tee, he’ll be in good shape at Bay Hill.

His short game has also improved tremendously in recent years, which isn’t reflected in the small statistical sample size he’s amassed in 2024.
