OWGR: 27th. FedEx Cup: 11th. Chris Kirk. 2024Colonial/PowerRank/8. 8

Few in this week’s field have been on property as much as Chris Kirk.

There’s a reason he continues to come back to Colonial.

In 12 starts at the Charles Schwab Challenge, Kirk has made 11 cuts with them all coming in a row before the streak ended last year after 72-73 was four off the cut line.

The highlight of those 11 paydays was his win in 2015 where he posted 68-69-65-66 to win by one over Jason Bohn, Brandt Snedeker, and native son Jordan Spieth.

“...if you can kind of flight your shots and work the ball with the wind here and there, you're going to have a big advantage out here because there's no -- there's a ton of cross-winds that you play in on this course,” Kirk was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2016. “You'll get a lot of off the left and a little in or maybe a little help. It's just a lot of sort of calculating exactly what that wind is doing on those iron shots, and you have to be very precise with how small the greens are here.”

Kirk flashed solid recent form prior to a missed cut last week at the PGA Championship. He had a streak of six straight made cuts with all but one in the top 30. Against elite fields, he took T-16th at the Masters and T-10th at the RBC Heritage.

The 39-year-old ranks 12th on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green (1.051) and 25th in SG: Off-the-Tee (.419). All the ball striking numbers are in line. Unfortunately for Kirk, he’s statistically one of the worst putters on tour this season.

The bright side is he’s heading to a course this week where he’s plenty familiar with the green complexes. I like Kirk to roll in enough to contend and be in the mix on Sunday.
