2024 Chevron Championship presents special homecoming for Stacy Lewis
A two-time major champion is coming home this week. Stacy Lewis is returning to the Woodlands for the Chevron Championship. The tournament will be played at The Club at Carlton Woods in the area. Lewis grew up in the Woodlands and attended Woodland Hills High School.
Stacy Lewis won the Chevron Championship back in 2011.
Her return to her hometown to compete in the championship is a great moment for her. Lewis recently spoke to Fox26 in Houston about how important this moment is and how she could show the kids who live in the area what is possible.
Lewis recently teed it up with junior golfer Syna Nijhawan on the 18th tee box at Carlton Woods in a demonstration on media day. Nijhawan is one of the top 400 junior golf players, as ranked by AJGA. According to KPRC Houston, Lewis gifted Nijhawan with autographed flags from several of her top tournaments.
Lewis has had a storied LPGA career winning 13 tournaments. In addition to her 2011 Chevron Championship, she was the first American to win the Women’s British Open in seven years in 2013. She also has been named the captain of the United States for the Solheim Cup in 2023 and this upcoming season.
Her last win on tour was the Ladies Scottish Open in 2020. Her best finish this season was at the T-Mobile Match Play presented by MGM Rewards at the beginning of April. She finished T-28th in the tournament.
Last year's champion Lilia Vu and Nelly Korda are the favorites to win this year's Chevron Championship. Korda has won four consecutive tournaments.
Lewis missed the cut last season at the Chevron Championship shooting 3-over par. She will hope to fare better this year but the journey and achievement of playing in her hometown will be something she will cherish for years to come.
