2024 Genesis Scottish Open: Top 10 power rankings at The Renaissance Club
Xander Schauffele has excelled at The Renaissance Club.
He won (72-65-66-70) the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open, posted T-10th (67-70-66-67) in his debut the year prior, and made the cut last year (70-66-67-74, T-42nd).
“You have to position yourself correctly around the property. So you know, it's hard to hit a lot of greens,” Schauffele was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2023. “When you do miss a green, you have to miss in the correct spot. You just know some fairways are almost impossible to hit, and like I said, some greens are impossible to hit, so you have to think your way around the property. You have to be willing to hit some uncomfortable shots around the day and through the course of the week.”
Schauffele comes to the United Kingdom well rested having a couple weeks off since his T-13th finish at the Travelers Championship.
That snapped his streak of four straight top-eight finishes highlighted by his first major championship victory at the PGA Championship.
The X Man also took solo eighth at the Masters and recently performed well at Signature Events like the Wells Fargo Championship (2nd) and Memorial Tournament (T-8th). Not to mention, Schauffele was T-7th at the U.S. Open despite lacking his best stuff.
Through June 30, the 30-year-old ranks second on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Total (2.241). Schauffele is also second in SG: Tee-to-Green (1.665) and fifth in SG: Approach (.754). His “weak” spot is Around-the-Green (.263), where he’s 28th.
Even then, he’s numero uno in scrambling (69.41%).
With studs like Scheffler and Cantlay out of the mix and the unknown state of McIlroy’s mindset, Schauffele seems like the obvious choice for the top spot in this week’s power rankings.
