2024 Genesis Scottish Open: Top 10 power rankings at The Renaissance Club
Robert MacIntyre has seen the highs and lows of golf.
He experienced both on one day alone last year at the Genesis Scottish Open.
He entered Sunday chasing Rory McIlroy. Surely, the four-time major champion would seal the deal, right?
Ultimately, yes, but down the stretch it looked like it was the native son MacIntyre who’d be hoisting the trophy for the biggest win of his career.
It took McIlroy two incredible birdies on the final two holes at The Renaissance Club to pull the rug out from under MacIntyre.
MacIntyre will be eager to seal the deal this time at this coveted event. He’s in good form, too, coming off a win last month at the RBC Canadian Open. That win was even sweeter having his dad on the bag as a temporary caddie.
MacIntyre has since added a T-16th at the Travelers Championship. The 27-year-old has five top-20s in 2024.
He has three of them in five starts at The Renaissance Club. The two times he missed the cut were by a combined three shots. Thirteen of 16 rounds on property were par or better.
Through June 30, MacIntyre is 39th on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Total (.57) with proficiencies everywhere except for Approach. Funny enough, though, he’s first in average approach proximity from 200-plus yards (43’1”). He’s fourth from 200-225 (34’5”) and fifth from 225-250 (42’).
If he improves with his shorter clubs, MacIntyre could really get rolling.
He’s also 14th in sand saves (63.83%). Good bunker play is a huge asset in links golf.
