2024 Genesis Scottish Open: Top 10 power rankings at The Renaissance Club
Matt Fitzpatrick doesn’t have the scorching hot current form to warrant a top-five spot in this week’s power rankings, but his past performance at The Renaissance Club is worthy of inclusion in the top 10.
Even when he missed the cut for the first time in five tries at this venue, he was still under par (68-73, -1).
He has three top-15 finishes in the past half-decade at the Genesis Scottish Open, starting with T-14th (67-65-67-68) in 2019. Two years later, rounds of 66-66-67-67 got him into a three-man playoff won by Min Woo Lee.
In 2022, the former Northwestern Wildcat recorded 71-66-70-70 for T-6th.
“...for me, the big thing is I feel like I've been pretty conservative around this golf course and just playing pretty safe, and I feel like that's been the smart thing to do and just not made the mistakes maybe that some others have,” Fitzpatrick was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2021. “I think if I can keep doing that tomorrow and keep the putter going, then I'll be okay.”
Fitzpatrick comes in well-rested with two weeks off since posting T-36th at the Travelers Championship.
The 29-year-old has a pair of top-fives this year at Signature Events. Fitzy posted solo fifth at the Players Championship and T-5th at the Memorial Tournament.
Through June 30, he ranks 18th on the PGA Tour in driving accuracy (69.5%). Fitzpatrick is also 11th in distance from the edge of the fairway (21’7”) meaning he’s routinely piping it right down the middle. Couple that with his distance gains in recent years, and he’s putting himself in ideal positions off the tee.
