It was hard to see Cam Davis’ win last week at the Rocket Mortgage Classic coming.

That’s not to say he doesn’t know how to win on the PGA Tour; he did it in 2021 at that very same event.

However, the Aussie wasn’t in all that great of form heading to Detroit Golf Club. Davis had yet to record a top-10 all season and hadn’t finished inside the top 30 since April, where he posted T-12th at Augusta National.

“I’m working with a hypnotherapist that I only just started working with, just trying to take a different approach to try and get my head back in the right place,” Davis was transcribed by Tee Scripts. “Yeah, I honestly haven't been a very good place mentally at all for the last six months or so. I felt like all the opportunities have been slipping out of my hands as the year progresses without playing very good golf. I had a great week at the Masters and it feels like since then it all had just left me.”

Davis carded 68-66-66-70 in Detroit to win by one over Akshay Bhatia, who graciously missed a 4-footer on the 72nd hole that would’ve sent them to a playoff.

Davis was top-30 on the week in all Strokes Gained stats, including ninth in Around-the-Green (3.052). He also led the field in birdies, which is a good sign for this week.

Another good sign for the 29-year-old is he’s made both of his cuts at the John Deere Classic.

Davis took T-55th (67-69-73-69) in 2021 and T-8th (68-68-65-68) the following year. Seven of eight rounds in the 60s, even at an easy layout like TPC Deere Run, is impressive stuff.
