2024 Masters: Top 10 power rankings at Augusta National
Jon Rahm is looking to become the first player to win the Masters in back-to-back years since Tiger in 2001-02.
He put on a dazzling performance last year, starting with his career-low round at Augusta National on Thursday, a 7-under 65.
He stayed strong when conditions toughened, finishing in 69-73-69 to hold off Brooks Koepka, among others.
It was Rahm’s second career major championship victory to go with his 2022 U.S. Open triumph.
This will be the Spaniard’s eighth Masters appearance.
He’s yet to finish worse than 27th and already owns four top-10s.
“Even Tiger, when he shot 18‑under in 1997, he made mistakes. You know, he missed greens,” Rahm was transcribed by ASAP Sports prior to the 2019 Masters. “He missed putts. He missed fairways like everybody else. So just knowing that everybody is going to make mistakes and almost everybody is going to three‑putt and everybody is going to miss a green and have a tough up‑and‑down. It's just going to happen to all of us. You just need to minimize those mistakes and be smart and think your way through Augusta.”
Rahm has yet to win in his five events on LIV, though he’s second in the tour’s season-long standings thanks to four top-10s and his worst finish being 14th place.
He leads LIV in birdies per round (5.07) and is second in greens in regulation (74.8%).
It will be interesting to see if teeing it up just five times so far in 2024 will be the right amount of prep for Rahm to properly defend his Masters title.
