2024 Masters: Top 10 power rankings at Augusta National
Scottie Scheffler has done nothing but perform at the Masters.
In his four appearances beginning in 2020, he’s never finished worse than T-19th. Of course, his 2022 win was his crowning achievement both at Augusta National and in his career.
Scheffler recorded a three-shot victory in 2022 when he posted 69-67-71-71. The biggest struggle he seemed to face was continuously putting on and taking off his vest on a chilly Saturday.
Scheffler put in a good title defense last year, posting 68-75-71-70 for T-10th.
He comes into the week on an incredible run of form. Scheffler won in back-to-back starts at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Players Championship. He nearly made it three in a row a couple weeks ago at the Texas Children’s Houston Open.
Scheffler was the 54-hole co-leader and had a 7-footer to force a playoff with Stephan Jaeger. Scheffler’s putting has skyrocketed back up after a dismal last year or so on the greens, but it reverted to recent form when he missed the putt on the 72nd hole.
On the bright side, the flat stick was still a net positive on the week, ranking 45th in the field in Strokes Gained: Putting (.495). He wasn’t even his usual dominant self ball-striking wise and still had a chance to win.
Scheffler ranked 11th in SG: Off-the-Tee (2.946) and fifth in SG: Approach (5.966) on the week.
This season he's first on the PGA Tour in SG: Total (2.812), first in SG: Approach (1.347), and first in SG: Tee-to-Green (2.798).
While his ‘22 Masters win remains his only major championship, it only seems like a matter of time before he reels off more.
The Texan’s career at majors shows 13 made cuts in 15 starts with every made cut resulting in T-23rd or better. Scheffler has two runner-ups and eight top-10s.
Even if he doesn’t win this week, his floor is incredibly high. A top-10 just seems inevitable with a win incoming if the putter is slightly above field average.
