2024Masters/PowerRank/7. 7. OWGR: 6th. Best Masters finish: T-7th (2023). Viktor Hovland

Viktor Hovland was one of the top golfers in 2023.

He hasn’t lived up to that billing so far in 2024, but it’s not too late to turn it around.

Coming to Augusta National could be the ticket to Hovland getting in gear.

This has been a venue that’s been relatively kind to the Norwegian ever since he took T-32nd and low amateur honors in his Masters debut in 2019.

Since then, he’s gone T-21st (73-70-72-73) in 2021, T-27th (72-76-71-73) in 2022, and T-7th (65-73-70-74) last year.

He’s at the point where he’s developed a good database at ANGC to draw from. Hovland’s beginning to further understand all the little nuances.

“I'd say every single time I'm out here I understand the golf course better and better,” Hovland was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2023. “It's a hard golf course, but you can make it a lot easier for yourself if you know what holes and what pins to push, which ones you just kind of want to hit in the middle of the green.”

Hovland comes into the week well-rested with his last start being a T-62nd finish at the Players Championship. He has two top-25s in five starts in 2024.

The former Oklahoma State Cowboy is a popular pick to become the next first-time major championship winner.

Hovland took T-2nd at last year’s PGA Championship and was top-20 in all four majors in 2023. Not to mention, he was a stalwart at the Ryder Cup. He’s getting more comfortable in the big moments.

Hovland’s flying under the radar this week, but it’d be no big shock if he came out and put on a show.
