2024 Memorial Tournament: Top 10 power rankings at Muirfield Village
I’m not sure any player needed a week off more last week than Scottie Scheffler.
He probably wouldn’t have played the week prior, either, if the PGA Tour wasn’t in Fort Worth for the Charles Schwab Challenge. It was a city away from the Dallas native’s residence. Kudos to Scottie for upholding his commitment after an enduring couple weeks where he still played good golf amidst the turmoil.
Scheffler extended his top-10 streak to 10 at Colonial where he finished T-2nd. Scheffler battled back after a sluggish 2-over-par opening round. If not for a crazy hot week by champion Davis Riley, Scheffler could’ve been in a playoff.
Like Colonial where he entered with a pair of top-threes, but no wins, in his last two starts, the same is the case this week at the Memorial Tournament.
Scheffler finished solo third (67-71-69-70) at Muirfield Village in 2021, did not attend in 2022, and was solo third (74-73-68-67) again last year.
In last year’s event, the former Texas Longhorn led the field in Strokes Gained: Around-the-Green (1.01), SG: Approach (2.96), SG: Off-the-Tee (1.21) and SG: Tee-to-Green (5.17).
You know how this story ends.
Scheffler was 65th out of 65 to make the cut in SG: Putting (-2.13) to squander his chances at the title.
The switch to the mallet putter early this spring hasn’t turned him into a world beater on the greens, but it no longer seems like every eight-footer he faces will go astray.
When you look at his PGA Tour profile, you’ll see a lot of stats with the number 1 next to them. To name a few, there’s SG: Total (2.842), SG: Tee-to-Green (2.742), SG: Off-the-Tee (.947), SG: Approach (.446), greens in regulation (73.9%) and proximity (34’3”).
