2024 Open Championship: Top 10 power rankings at Royal Troon
The Open Championship has returned to Royal Troon Golf Club for the 10th time and first since 2016. This is the 152nd Open.
The club has 45 holes with its Old Course hosting championship events.
Royal Troon is a seaside layout in South Ayrshire, Scotland, designed by George Strath, Willie Fernie and James Braid. It currently measures at 7,190 yards for a par 71.
Like most courses in the Open rota, it’s an exposed links design with deep pot bunkers dotting the property. Wind is one of the course’s main defenses.
Proper positioning in the fairway is key to creating the right angles to attack the greens, which expect to run fairly slow by major championship standards.
It expects to be a cool, wet, and windy week in Scotland. It’s been wet in the weeks leading up, too. So, while we won’t get the crispy firm and fast conditions many golf fans would like to see at this event, we’ll certainly be treated to some trademark brutal weather.
Many of the big names you’d expect to see in the field are here, including Tiger Woods and all the PGA Tour stars. A notable absence is Sergio Garcia, who failed to qualify via 36-hole qualifying. He was a winner last week in his home country of Spain. The biggest snub, barring a withdrawal, is Cameron Davis, a recent winner at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, who is inside the top-40 of the Official World Golf Ranking and is first alternate.
Let’s dive into this week’s power rankings for the final men’s major championship of the year:
