Xander Schauffele can become the first men’s golfer to win two major championships in a year since Brooks Koepka in 2018.

Schauffele’s been the second-best player in the majors in 2024, narrowly behind Bryson DeChambeau, the man he outlasted to win the PGA Championship.

Schauffele has been a fantastic majors player throughout his career, but that PGA performance finally got the monkey off his back to show he could win one.

He began the major season with a solo eighth finish at the Masters. Schauffele took T-7th at the U.S. Open.

At The Open Championship, the American has made all six cuts highlighted by T-2nd in 2018 at Carnoustie.

“I enjoy it,” Schauffele was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2022 discussing links golf. “I enjoy playing the ball down, hitting creative shots and trying to think your way around the golf course. I enjoy that style of golf.”

The American played well last week at the Genesis Scottish Open, posting four sub-70 rounds on the way to T-15th. Schauffele made just one bogey all week at The Renaissance Club and got up and down 12 of 13 times. That short game tidiness should come in handy given the cool, wet, and windy weather on tap this week.

This PGA Tour season through July 7, the 30-year-old ranks second on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Total (2.241) and second in SG: Tee-to-Green (1.665).

His stats are excellent in all categories. He’s perhaps the most adaptable player in the world, which is why he gets the ever-so-slight nod for this week’s No. 2 spot over Bryson.
