2024 Open Championship: Top 10 power rankings at Royal Troon
Brooks Koepka’s a five-time major champion. His Hall of Fame status is undeniable. He’s won all over the world having gotten his pro career underway on the Challenge Tour and European Tour.
One thing still missing from the American’s illustrious resume is a Claret Jug.
Koepka’s made seven of nine cuts at The Open Championship with four top-10s.
He’s struggled on the links land the past two years but posted three top-10s in his previous four outings.
“I've always enjoyed playing links golf,” Koepka was transcribed by ASAP Sports at the 2021 Open. “I think it takes a lot of creativity and imagination. In the States a lot of times you just throw it up high in the air and the ball is going to stop, where you've really got to pay attention where the ball is going to bounce into the green. You might have 50 yards but you've got about six clubs you could play. I think that's fun. It brings out the creative side. It's fun. I love it. I love it over here.”
The former Florida State Seminole’s made the cut in all three majors in 2024, though he hasn’t cracked the top 25.
This will be his debut at Royal Troon.
You always have to take his recent form leading into a major with a grain of salt. His apathy toward non-major events can be high.
That’s why I’m not willing to hit the panic button after Koepka finished 42nd two starts ago at LIV Nashville and 27th last week at LIV Andalucia.
He’s still top-10 in the LIV individual standings. On the Saudi circuit, Kopeka is 14th in driving distance (309.9 yards) and 12th in greens in regulation (70.37%). His short game numbers aren’t eye-catching, but it can be an underrated part of his arsenal when he’s clicking.
