Best Open Championship finish: T-8th (2022). Bryson DeChambeau. 2024BritishOpen/PowerRank/3. 3. OWGR: 9th

Bryson DeChambeau has been the best major championship player of 2024. Yes, that includes Scottie Scheffler.

DeChambeau took T-6th at the Masters, pushed Xander Schauffele all the way to the finish en route to solo second at the PGA Championship, and outlasted Rory McIlroy to win the U.S. Open.

That makes it two U.S. Open titles for the SMU alum. He can get halfway to the career Grand Slam with a win this week at Royal Troon.

The Open Championship has been DeChambeau’s weakest of the four majors, though he’s still made the cut in four of six appearances. He’s made three in a row, including T-8th in 2022 at St. Andrews.

The American’s made six straight cuts at majors and eight of the last nine.

In 10 events on LIV this season, DeChambeau’s never finished worse than 27th out of 48. He’s yet to win on the Saudi circuit, but he finished third two starts ago in Nashville and ninth last week in Andalucia.

The 30-year-old ranks first on LIV in driving distance (322.5 yards), ninth in greens in regulation (70.74%), and 11th in scrambling (65.19%). His bomb-and-gouge mentality doesn’t always suit well for links golf, but a wet golf course that’s anticipated at Royal Troon could allow him to take more chances.

It’s never a dull moment in the news with DeChambeau. The latest incident is his former coach, Mike Schy, accusing DeChambeau of failing to fund a junior golf tour created in DeChambeau’s late father’s honor. DeChambeau refuted it, but it’s a messy scene regardless.

If he can set all that aside, DeChambeau will be a threat to win this week.
