2024 Players Championship: Top 10 power rankings at TPC Sawgrass
Just about everyone who’s teed it up at the Players Championship on multiple occasions has a checkered history at TPC Sawgrass.
Xander Schauffele had a rough go of it from 2019-2022, but he’s got a pair of impressive bookending results at this event.
He shined in his 2018 debut, carding 68-68-71-67 thanks largely to excellent ball striking. Schauffele hit 66.07% fairways and 72.22% greens in regulation.
The X Man refound that form on the back nine last year. He opened with a ho-hum 72-73 before ascending the leaderboard up to T-19th with 69-68 on the weekend.
Schauffele was sixth in the field in Strokes Gained: Around-the-Green (4.494) and 19th in SG: Putting (3.109).
“I think that it really speaks to your whole bag. You can't really kind of hide any weakness out here,” Schauffele was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2021. “You can hit the ball great all day, putt really well and then struggle with chipping. Or you can kind of hit it bad, hit your irons great, hit it bad off the tee and hit your irons great and putt and chip very well and you're just not going to put it together.”
The San Diego State alum owns three top-10s in six starts in 2024. He peaked with T-3rd at The American Express. Last week resulted in T-25th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Schauffele ranks eighth on the PGA Tour in SG: Total (1.334) and in SG: Off-the-Tee (.719). He tends to be an analytics darling due to his low variance and high floor.
He’s No. 2 in the Sagarin ranking and in the Data Golf ranking.
