2024 Players Championship: Top 10 power rankings at TPC Sawgrass
Shane Lowry is trending in the right direction.
The Irishman notched a pair of top-four Florida finishes the last two weeks at The Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches and the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Lowry tamed PGA National to the tune of 67-67-66-71 for T-4th.
Last week, rounds of 66-71-70 got him into the final group. No one was catching Scottie Scheffler that day, who won by five over Wyndham Clark and six over Lowry.
Lowry had a tough start on Sunday at 3-over through seven holes. He got each bogey back to battle back for even par amid tough final-round conditions at one of the more challenging courses on the PGA Tour schedule.
Lowry ranked seventh in the field in Strokes Gained: Approach (4.166), seventh in SG: Around-the-Green (2.657), and ninth in SG: Off-the-Tee (2.986).
“I'm used to playing major championships and I'm used to playing tough golf courses, and you have to roll with the punches,” Lowry was transcribed by ASAP Sports. “I play these types of courses well. Obviously, my record is not great here, but I play tough golf courses well. Yeah, you just have to roll with the punches and keep going and keep fighting as hard as you can and see where it leaves you at the end of the day. For me, today it was third place. Hopefully, next week I go a couple better.”
Speaking of tough courses, Lowry arrives at another one this week. He’s making his ninth appearance at TPC Sawgrass.
The 34-year-old has made five cuts at the Players Championship. His best results are eighth place in 2021 (68-74-69-68), T-13th (73-70-67-72) in 2022, and T-16th (65-68-78-71) in 2016. Lowry took T-35th (77-69-68-70) last year.
