2024 RBC Canadian Open: Top 10 power rankings at Hamilton
Shane Lowry is hopeful to improve upon his last result in Hamilton. The only way to do so is to win or take solo second.
The Irishman fired 64-68-66-67 here in 2019 to take T-2nd. Unfortunately for Lowry and the rest of the field, there was no catching Rory McIlroy who was a seven-shot victor.
Lowry was third in the field in Strokes Gained: Putting (7.659) and fifth in SG: Around-the-Green (4.025).
“Hamilton Golf & Country Club here has been great,” Lowry was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2019. “I stepped on the first tee on Tuesday morning when I went out to play and I loved it straightaway.”
Speaking of McIlroy from before, that’s who Lowry teamed up with to win the 2024 Zurich Classic of New Orleans last month.
Lowry modestly attributed the win primarily to Rory’s efforts. While there may have been some truth to that, Lowry did his part, too.
He’s played some splendid golf this year with four top-10s counting his team triumph. Lowry’s doing it on big stages, too. The 37-year-old took solo third at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T-19th at the Players, and T-6th in his last start a couple weeks ago at the PGA Championship.
Lowry’s 24th on the PGA Tour in SG: Total (.794). Aiding the cause are ranks of 16th in SG: Tee-to-Green (.941) and 15th in SG: Approach (.602).
While he can struggle on some longer layouts, Hamilton appears to be right up the diminutive Lowry’s alley.
