2024 RBC Heritage: Top 10 power rankings at Harbour Town
It’s clearer than Bahamian water that Scottie Scheffler ought to be the No. 1 pick this week. He will be for any event he tees it up in for the foreseeable future.
The only thing that can stop him this week would seem to be his pregnant wife, Meredith. She’s due at the end of the month with their first child. That was the big storyline last week during his Masters win as Scottie said he’d withdraw if she went into labor, even if he was leading.
Fortunately for him, he didn’t have to hustle out of Magnolia Lane early.
It still projects that he’ll be in the clear to complete the RBC Heritage this week based on her due date, but keep an eye out on your DFS lineups in case he bows out pre-tournament. Even if he does play, is it worth the risk to bet him or game him in a DFS lineup? I’ll leave that for you to decide.
What’s certain is he’s the clear-cut No. 1 player in the world. That was on display last week in Scheffler’s four-stroke victory at Augusta National.
It was a tight race heading into the back nine on Sunday, but Scheffler separated when it got down to crunch time. The Texan claimed his second green jacket with rounds of 66-72-71-68 (-11).
Scheffler’s cool, grounded demeanor is perfect for a championship golfer. He tries his best, works hard, and lets the chips fall where they may.
The chips are stacking up in his favor of late with three wins and a T-2nd in his last four starts. The former Texas Longhorn is on a streak of seven top-10s and 12 top-25s. Scheffler hasn’t missed a cut since August 2022. That’s getting into Tiger levels of dominance.
The 27-year-old leads the PGA Tour in a bevy of statistical categories. Most notable are Strokes Gained: Total (2.812), SG: Approach (1.347), greens in regulation (74.55%), and three different yardage ranges between 50-175 yards.
His official PGA Tour stats would be even better if last week's Masters contributed toward them.
