Rickie Fowler has a couple good reasons to be at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

For one, Rocket Mortgage is a sponsor of his. Fowler’s been at this event since its inauguration in 2019.

Second, is Fowler’s the defending champ. He earned his sixth PGA Tour title, and first in more than four years, by surviving a three-man playoff against Adam Hadwin and Collin Morikawa.

It’s not easy winning the week of your sponsor’s tournament given the off-course obligations a popular figure like Fowler had.

In the years prior at the Rocket, as the locals call it, Fowler went T-46th (68-68-72-71), T-12th (67-71-69-67), T-32nd (70-69-68-71) and missed the cut (73-74). Fowler was in the doldrums with his golf game in 2022, but otherwise, he’s been stellar at DGC.

“if you drive the ball well out here, you can score,” Fowler was transcribed by Tee Scripts in 2019. “There's a lot of scoring opportunities, which is nice.”

Fowler is coming off T-20th last week at the Travelers Championship. He was in the mix after an opening 6-under 64 and followed with three more rounds in the 60s.

That was a step in the right direction for Rick after consecutive missed cuts at the Memorial Tournament and U.S. Open. His result at TPC River Highlands was Fowler’s second top-20 of the season, both of which came at a Signature Event.

The 35-year-old’s played a fairly rigorous schedule in 2024, so this week is a good opportunity to try to beat up on some up-and-comers.

Playing from the fairway is crucial this week to shoot the requisite low numbers required to contend. Fowler is 57th on the PGA Tour in driving accuracy (64.9%), more than two percent higher than Tour average.
