2024 Sony Open: Fantasy Golf Showdown Picks
By Hans Geevers
This Thursday, the first round of the 2024 Sony Open will begin. Let's take a look at this tournament from a DraftKings/fantasy golf perspective!
Before I discuss my fantasy golf player selections I wanted to emphasize that the purpose of this article is not to provide an exact lineup for a specific fantasy provider.
Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a DraftKings GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!
For those readers who are not aware, the rules and scoring for DraftKings showdown contests are vastly different than the traditional classic contests offered by the platform. If you need to review the specific rules for the showdown contest feel free to check out the DraftKings website.
Here are my fantasy golf/DraftKings player selections for the 2024 Sony Open.
2024 Sony Open: Round One Showdown Selections
Corey Conners $9,900
Since the beginning of June, Corey Conners has played ten events on the PGA Tour. In those ten tournaments just noted, Corey Conners has accumulated six top-26 finishes, including a sixth-place result at the 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship in August.
Corey Conners finished 12th at the 2023 Sony Open.
Justin Rose $8,300
Last week, the talented Englishman fired a final round 61 at the 2024 Sentry. Additionally, Justin Rose played well at the 2023 Hero World Challenge four weeks ago. More specifically, Justin Rose finished eighth at the 2023 Hero World Challenge.
Justin Rose has also played well at the Waialae Country Club previously. Rose finished second at the 2017 Sony Open.
Matt Fitzpatrick $10,300
Matt Fitzpatrick has accumulated five top-18 finishes in his last six tournaments played (DP World and PGA Tours combined), including a win at the 2023 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in October.
Additional golfers I like to perform well in the first round: Chris Kirk: Sahith Theegala: Brian Harman: Lucas Glover.
