For some PGA Tour pros, a top-five finish can define a season or even a career. For Scottie Scheffler, it’s hardly a blip on the radar.

He produced a ho-hum T-4th (63-70-63-65) at last year’s Travelers Championship.

He had no shot to win on Sunday the way Keegan Bradley ran away with it, but Scheffler finished only a shot back of second place.

Scheffler was fifth in the field in Strokes Gained: Approach (6.007) and ninth in SG: Off-the-Tee (2.876).

This will be the Texan’s fifth start at TPC River Highlands. He took T-13th in 2022.

Scheffler proved he was human last week by becoming a non-factor at the U.S. Open. He made the cut at Pinehurst en route to a T-41st finish; but struggled to get any momentum going.

His stats were pretty middling with the short game and putting doing him in. His work on the greens can be troublesome, but we’ve seen enough evidence of late to know he shouldn’t stay down for long.

Scheffler’s bad weeks are a lot of player’s good weeks. He’s no doubt the favorite this week in pursuit of his sixth win of 2024 and second in three starts. Don’t forget how solid he was at the Memorial Tournament, where he beat up on the same guys who are teeing it up this week in Connecticut.

Along with his high finish last year at the Travelers, he also earned T-13th (68-67-65-70) in 2022.

The former Texas Longhorn leads the PGA Tour in SG: Total (2.728), SG: Tee-to-Green (2.743) and SG: Approach (1.52). Scheffler is also dialed with a short club in his hands like he’ll have often this week in Connecticut. He’s tops in average approach proximity from 50-125 yards (13’), from 100-125 (13’11”), and 75-100 (12’1”).
