2024 Travelers Championship: Top 10 power rankings at TPC River Highlands
Collin Morikawa is looking to ride his recent run of form to finally break through for a good performance at the Travelers Championship.
TPC River Highlands has been a bit of a tough nut to crack for the Californian, but there’s reason for optimism.
The last time he teed it up at this venue, he posted a 7-under 63 in the second round. Unfortunately, that was after an opening 74. He missed the cut by one.
Morikawa made the cut in his debut in 2019, posting 68-67-75-68 for T-36th in his third career start as a pro.
The former Cal Golden Bear ranks sixth on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Total (1.275). He’s 11th in SG: Tee-to-Green (1.196) and 15th in SG: Off-the-Tee (.539).
Morikawa is second in driving accuracy percentage (77.95%). He was first going into last week. Despite hitting 80% of his fairways at the U.S. Open, Sepp Straka hit 88% of them and is now the PGA Tour leader (78.16%).
The 27-year-old Morikawa is 13th in approaches from 175-200 yards (31’9”) and 41st from 150-175 (27’5”).
He’s coming off T-14th last week at the U.S. Open. Morikawa was a shot off from tying low round of the tournament with a Saturday 4-under 66. For the week, he was 11th in the field in SG: Off-the-Tee (.71) and 15th in SG: Putting (1.03).
It was another high-money finish on the heels of T-4th at the PGA Championship, solo fourth at the Charles Schwab Challenge, and solo second at the Memorial Tournament. Morikawa went right down to the wire with world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler at the Memorial.
