2024 Travelers Championship: Top 10 power rankings at TPC River Highlands
Ludvig Aberg didn’t have the weekend he was hoping for at the U.S. Open. He still had another impressive showing rounding out his first full year as a pro.
The 24-year-old Swede was the 36-hole leader at Pinehurst No. 2 en route to a T-12th finish. Not too shabby of a follow-up to his solo second finish this spring at the Masters.
Aberg was third in the U.S. Open field in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee (1.26). He was deft at avoiding all the sand wire grass, finishing at T-3rd in fairways hit (82%).
Many were wondering if Aberg’s summer was going to be wiped out by a meniscus tear, but he looks a lot like the former world No. 1 amateur and perhaps future world No. 1 pro we’ve come to know.
He also finished T-5th at the Memorial Tournament two weeks ago in his first start since a missed cut at the PGA Championship.
Aberg is now beginning to make second visits to PGA Tour tournaments. He’s back at the Travelers Championship after finishing T-24th (67-65-65-70) here last year in his second pro event.
Aberg is already a PGA Tour winner at last fall’s RSM Classic. Now, notching a Signature Event victory seems like the next logical progression.
The former Texas Tech Red Raider is fifth on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Total (1.316). His ball striking stats are all splendid. He’s 12th in SG: Tee-to-Green (1.045), 14th in SG: Off-the-Tee (.55), and 11th in SG: Approach (.542).
There will be a lot of approaches from around 150 yards this week. He’s 11th from 150-175 (25’10”) and 44th from 125-150 (22’11”). Wedge play helps, too. Aberg is 28th from inside 100 (14’11”).
He’s also sixth in par-4 scoring (3.97). That will help at TPC River Highlands, which has 14 par-4s.
